Course: Leading Effective Nonprofit TeamsDePaul University offers a five-week course for nonprofit professionals to develop transformational leadership skills, learning and practicing strategies to build collective efficacy within their teams; lead successful programs; and align their organization’s mission, strategy, and impact. In this program, you will develop your leadership philosophy drawing on current research, practice a variety of tools and protocols to set their team up for success, learn strategies for giving and receiving high quality feedback and facilitating courageous conversations, and assess the effectiveness of their team. Participants will choose a team they are currently a part of and draw on real-life experiences to implement new learnings. During this course, participants will also engage in case studies, role plays, simulations, and discussions. Upon successful completion of the program, participants will have added new tools in their toolbox to build and lead highly effective teams.
While this course is geared for the nonprofit sector, anyone interested in leadership can benefit from taking this course. Those who facilitate, manage, lead, or participate in a professional team regardless of rank or title, can be a leader in their organizations. What are the required course materials? Materials will be provided including PowerPoint slides, selected readings, case studies/scenario analysis, and sample tools, protocols, and templates for active learning and application. How is this course evaluated? Rubrics will be used to evaluate contributions to weekly discussion board participation and in-class performance tasks. Participants will have the opportunity for self and peer evaluation as well as receive feedback from the course instructor.
