Course: Human Resources Competencies CertificateThe DePaul University HR Competencies Certificate Program assists HR professionals in preparing for the SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP certification exams. This program provides comprehensive HR professional development, a structured approach to mastering the SHRM exam content, and a deeper understanding of HR principles and best practices. The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) offers two globally recognized certifications: the SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) and the SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP). These exams evaluate an HR professional's competence and knowledge across various HR domains.

Why has DePaul University chosen to offer the HR Competencies Certificate Program? Since the 1990s, DePaul has offered various HR-related training programs and assisted thousands of HR professionals in preparing for HR certification exams. When SHRM introduced the new SHRM certifications in 2015, DePaul sought to provide SHRM-related training options for HR professionals and organizations that have long relied on us for HR training and certification preparation. Why should I take this program? This program offers professional development in HR and assists in your preparation for the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification exams. By systematically exploring the SHRM Body of Applied Skills and Knowledge (SHRM BASK), you can build a strong foundation for job and certification success. DePaul's experienced HR instructors will guide you through complex HR concepts, ensuring you understand the material and develop effective study and application strategies. The program also provides valuable resources, such as practice questions, to enhance your preparation. How long is the program? The HR Competencies Certificate runs for 12 weeks. What materials do I need for the program? The SHRM Learning System. Is the SHRM Learning System included in the cost of the class? Yes, students in the class will receive the most current version of the SHRM Learning System in the format available to the university. DePaul will ship it to the online students and provide it in class for students taking the class on campus. Does this program have homework? Yes, there are weekly readings, discussion boards, and tests. Does the HR Competencies program result in a certificate? Yes, completing the program with a minimum score of 75% on assignments and attendance will earn you a DePaul HR Competencies Certificate. Does DePaul provide the SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP exam? SHRM administers the SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP exams. Students should complete an application with SHRM and pay an application fee to SHRM to apply for an exam. Are there any prerequisites to enroll in this program? No, but DePaul suggests that participants have experience in HR and meet the eligibility for the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification exam. Do you have to apply for admission to DePaul to take the program? No, the program has no admission requirements. Are there any career benefits to completing this program? Who teaches the program? The instructors are certified HR professionals with extensive HR experience. How often is the program offered? The DePaul HR Competencies Certificate Program twice a year around the SHRM testing windows. What is the format of the program? The program is a combination of lectures, quizzes, discussion boards, and readings. The class is offered online with no set schedule and weekly deadlines for assignments, or at the Loop Campus once a week from 6 pm to 9 pm CT. What is the amount of tuition for the program? $1515.00 Do I have to pay tuition all at once? Yes. Full tuition is due at the time of registration. Is financial aid available? No, this is a non-credit/non-degree program, there is no financial aid available. Can I apply for federal funding or FAFSA? No, the DePaul Paralegal Student Certificate Program is a non-degree program and is not eligible for federal student loans. Does DePaul University provide a 1098-T form for tax credits for tuition? No. Non-credit programs at DePaul University do not generate 1098-T forms, per the IRS guidelines. What is your refund policy?
All requests to cancel registration and receive refunds must be sent to cperegistration@depaul.edu or via fax to 312-362-8764. Requests must be received at least seven (7) days before the course is scheduled to start. Can I use this program for university credit elsewhere? No, this is a professional, non-credit program which awards a post-baccalaureate certificate. This program does not grant college credits. You may be able to apply your certificate towards prior learning assessment (PLA) credit with a DePaul SCPS degree. you will need to check with SCPS PLA advisor at SCPSPLA@depaul.edu. Is this a graded program? Yes. There are graded assignments and students must achieve a final grade of C (75% or higher) or better in the program. To earn the certificate, you must demonstrate mastery of the required knowledge and skills by achieving, an average score of 75% on assignments and exams and at least 75% attendance. When do I get my certificate? Upon successful completion of the program, with a final grade of C or better and at least 75% attendance, DePaul University will mail the Paralegal Studies Certificate to students with a zero balance within 3 months after the program end date. Can I take individual classes? There are no individual classes. I registered for an online class, when will I receive my login information? You should receive your login information at least two business days before the course starts. If you registered less than seven days before the course, there might be a delay in accessing the online course site. In such cases, you may not receive your login until two to five business days after the course begins. Does this program qualify for financial assistance through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)? What are the credentials this program helps you prepare for?
