These workshops are open to anyone wanting to learn more about DEI initiatives, especially those interested in practicing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:
• Explain the benefits of intentionally practicing DEI within the private and public domain
• Recognize the challenges of embedding DEI practices within the workplace
• Identify ways to practice DEI that are meaningful and sustainable
• Articulate how to create diverse and inclusive spaces that are safe and accessible
Workshop 1:
Through activities designed for self-reflection/exploration (not shaming!), you will delve into your own challenges when trying to practice diversity and inclusivity (D&I). Only by understanding your own identity, bias, and experiences can you better understand why you respond a certain way when you are with individuals who are different from you. This first class is all about you!
Workshop 2:
In this second workshop, you will be presented with the facts of why practicing D&I is good for business. You will examine the available research on the financial and intellectual benefits of having individuals from different backgrounds in your schools, workplace, and other spaces where you interact with others. This information is meant for you to use when articulating about and/or advocating for your workplace to be more inclusive and diverse.
Workshop 3:
What do you do with all this information? In this final workshop, you will put it all together. You will explore various ways to introduce and/or implement D&I in your workplace. You will have the opportunity to design your own D&I plan that best fits in your workplace.
